EMBL-EBI and collaborators launch the COVID-19 Data Portal and the SARS-CoV-2 Data Hubs

20 April, Cambridge – EMBL’s European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) and partners today launched the COVID-19 Data Portal, which enables the sharing and analysis of clinical-epidemiological and OMICs data related to the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2. The initiative capitalizes on existing infrastructure to facilitate international collaboration on the development or evaluation of novel vaccines, treatments, or prophylaxis for SARS-CoV-2.

The COVID-19 Data Portal will be linked to SARS-CoV-2 Data Hubs. These hubs are currently being built and, once ready, will facilitate the rapid sharing and analyses of pathogen and host genetic data and other data types from the outbreak. The SARS-CoV-2 Data Hubs apply FAIR principles for data management and discovery to promote the connections between data generating groups and the Open Science community needed to facilitate the research response to COVID-19.

The ReCoDID project will support the COVID-19 Data Portal’s work through cross-study harmonization of key variables, collection of study metadata, and the global engagement of data generators in collaborative, platform-based data sharing and analyses.
